About Joy

Joy was the first experiment with bringing color into a somatic doodled, hand-drawn piece with Micron pens. Absolutely terrified of color, I tried to bring a rhythm of music into it. Allowing the rainbow to speak to me. Pressing them intuitively, rhythmically, to see what shape would emerge from the doodle. Once the shape emerged — after its completion through Procreate — the somatic connection that came through during the intuitive drawing session made it through the colors and expressed itself.

Joy became a reminder of how not every joy is something you experience immediately. Sometimes you need to go through a couple of iterations, to be transformed in the process of that transformation, to receive the joy itself. Through that transformation, the uncomfortable sensations illuminate what you were too scared to feel. In feeling it, joy makes itself known. Joy is a journey — not static, but always moving.
