Creative Burnout Is a Body Problem — How Somatics Saved My Creative Life After 15 Years in VFX

On LinkedIn, I see two kinds of people in the industry.

Those pretending to love it to keep getting by. And those who can't stop complaining about it and wishing they were somewhere else.

I've been on both ends. It's part of the human experience.

After 10 years of dabbling in different spiritual spaces — and my first major creative burnout after my first staff job right out of college, where boundaries weren't something anyone taught — I realized something.

A steady connection to your body, whether you're still in the industry or want to leave it, supports you in the long run to be a healthier creative.

Creative burnout starts because we are conditioned to believe we need to push our bodies aside and pick them back up once we deliver our shots.

What I found was — you don't need an intensive practice. You don't need to figure out all the yoga poses. You don't need to go fully spiritual.

A simple practice of bringing breath back into the body and inviting your inner child is enough to wake up sensation. The awareness of sensation as you're creating — so you feel more sustained. Less leaving your body behind and picking it up later.

Honestly? I've become a better artist by learning to listen to my body.

It's easier to take notes. You're more available for feedback. You start seeing things creatively that you wouldn't have noticed when you were running on empty.

I'm on here to share 15 years of that journey — distilled into a simple book.

Permission to Feel — a somatic coloring & doodling book to support you in building a relationship to your body, your breath, and your inner child.

Whether you want to stay in the industry you love — or build the foundation to recover your creative spark.

It doesn't have to be hard. It can be simple.

This is also my first book out in the world. And I would genuinely appreciate your support.

The first 48 hours are the most important for a self-published book.

If this resonates — get it today. Leave a review. If you know someone teetering between feeling really miserable in their work and wanting another option — gift it to them. If you know someone who wants to reconnect to their creative spark — send it their way.

One share. One gift. One person who needed to hear this today.

Bringing creative power back to the people. One somatic practice at a time.
